Readings for Tuesday: Chapters one and two in Winebrenner.
Characteristics of Gifted Students and Gifted Students Identify Themselves
Characteristics of Gifted students: Write a Description of a student who fits some of the characteristics . See course blog for samples.
Do own assessment: Handout from the course: Learning styles inventories.
Do online personality assessment. (Karen has one similar to Myers-Briggs)
Interest inventory: Do that as themselves. (Karen will copy for everyone.)
Write a one-page reflection on the previous readings in Winebrenner, Hollas/ Tomlinson
And Roberts. Which author speaks to you? How can you use this information?

Pre-assessment: Who understands it and can do it?
Read Chapters 3, 6 ,7 and 8
I'm about to create all this great curriculum stuff, but how do I make sure there is time to do it? Me and the kids?
Reflection paper: What are your own pre-assessment strategies, and when you've encountered students who already know the material, what have you done with them in the past?
Write out: Quick outline of unit plans:
What is the unit you are working on? How is it shaping up so far? What do you think you are going to do? Have you changed your thinking? Will you be doing anything differently? What else do you need in order to do it? How can we help you?
When will you be teaching this unit?
LONG RANGE ASSIGNMENT
Familiarize yourself with the remaining chapters in the book and/or locate resources more valuable to you. (e.g. The Parallel Curriculum)
Assignment and when due. First date set.
First online assignment. Reading from selected GT Magazines or from online resources. Pick a topic and read 2 or 3 articles on that topic.
Post before the meeting. Respond to each person's contribution in a short response online. (Set up as a chat room.)
Continue work on your own unit.
Share pre-assessment strategy and student learning style and interest assessments for the unit. (Used or to be used)
Sharing time: How is it going with their unit? Each person will have a time to share at one of the four meetings, based on when their unit is being taught.
How is the online component working for you? Changes needed?
